Kate Shoemaker, a master’s student at Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, is fascinated with how environmental solutions can be implemented in the private sector. Kate’s interests have consistently hovered at the intersect of food and the environment. Kate pursued experience in the nonprofit world through working for the Surfrider Foundation in San Diego. Kate advocated for campaigns including Rise Above Plastics, Climate Change Committee, and Ocean Friendly Restaurants. Additionally, Kate worked as a liaison to corporations for the corporate beach cleanup program. Kate saw the potential for change in the private sector and is pursuing the Corporate Environmental Management Concentration at Bren. Combining this concentration, with the Energy and Climate focus, Kate hopes to make environmental solutions available to corporations across various industries including food retailers, energy, and medicine.
